Thousands Attend PSJA ISD’s 2nd Annual Trunk or Treat Event

PHARR – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) hosted its 2ndAnnual PSJA ISD Trunk or Treat: Chills, Thrills, & Page Turners on Oct. 30, 2024, at the PSJA Stadium, attracting more than 7,400 attendees for an evening of Halloween fun. This year’s theme celebrated both Halloween excitement and a love for reading, connecting with PSJA ISD’s district-wide literacy initiatives.

During the event, attendees enjoyed a safe, family-friendly environment to collect candy and visited literacy-themed trunks decorated by PSJA ISD schools and departments. Families also enjoyed dozens of games, and activities while embracing the spooky season with stories.

The event featured a costume contest, where participants showcased their Halloween costumes for a chance to win a trophy in three categories: Spookiest Costume, Most Creative Costume, and Funniest Costume. The PSJA Library Services Department served as this year’s costume contest judges and named six winners in Elementary and Secondary groups.

In addition, families also enjoyed live music from the PSJA Early College High School Orchestra, who performed popular Halloween music as families visited with schools and departments collecting candy while simultaneously learning about the many opportunities PSJA ISD has to offer.

In an effort to promote unity among feeder campuses, PSJA ISD hosted its inaugural Most Spirited Feeder Pattern and Most Spirited Campus competition with PSJA T. Jefferson T-STEM Early College High School being among those recognized for going above and beyond. The campus had a Frankenstein Science Station and their Titan Dance team performed surprise “Thriller” flash mobs for the crowds.

The event was made possible through the collaboration of local vendors, sponsors, and PSJA ISD schools and departments, providing a memorable experience for the entire PSJA ISD community.

“Thank you to the thousands of families and community members who joined us for this event,” said Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias. “It was great seeing our PSJA Family come together for a night of safe Halloween fun while seeing everything PSJA ISD has to offer.”
