Over 500 PSJA ISD Seniors earn Seals of Biliteracy at 18th Annual Biliteracy Certification Ceremony

SAN JUAN - Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) recognized 538 graduating seniors for earning rigorous Seals of Biliteracy during the 18th Annual Biliteracy Certification Ceremony and Banquet, held April 21–22, 2026, at the Hacienda de San Juan.

Through PSJA ISD’s nationally recognized Dual Language Enrichment Program, students develop fluency in two languages, a skill that provides a strong advantage in college, career, and beyond. PSJA ISD remains the only district in the Rio Grande Valley, and among a select few in Texas, to award an official Biliteracy Seal on high school diplomas; an achievement valued by employers and higher education institutions across the country.

“For 12 years, the PSJA Dual Language Program has connected my background with my academic success,” said Joe Salinas, a senior at PSJA Southwest Early College High School. “The program has helped me grow not only as a student, but as a person, proving that being biliterate is not a barrier but a bridge that connects people and opens doors.”

Established in 1995, the PSJA Dual Language Enrichment Program continues to serve as a model for bilingual education, earning recognition from the US Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency. The program supports students from Pre-K 3 through 12th grade, promoting bilingualism, biliteracy, and cultural awareness.

“At PSJA ISD, we know that bilingualism and biliteracy create opportunities,” said PSJA Dual Language Enrichment Program Director Olivia Martinez. “This milestone reflects the dedication of our students and the strength of a program that continues to prepare them for success in a global society.”

PSJA ISD offers Dual Language programming for all students from Pre-K 3 through 12th grade and welcomes families from across the Rio Grande Valley. To learn more or enroll, visit www.psjaisd.us/whypsja
